The Motorcyle Diaries describe Ernesto Che Guevaras journey of self-discovery through South America that marked the turning point for his revolutionary ideas. Maybe my new motorscooter will do the same for me. Just how am I going to get it to South America?

I'm takin´a ride with
my best friend ...I have been dreaming about owning a motorscooter since I was a highschool kid. Remember Depeche Mode "never let me down again", that grainy black and white video of Dave Gahan riding his scooter through the Italian mountains? I wanted to take that ride, wanted to take that road to nowhere, watch the world pass me by, and just be free. Back then I just didn´t have the money, and so I had to stick to skateboarding as a cool means of transportation.

Den Haag nightsWell, some 20 years later I decided to act upon that adolescent feeling and finally get that piece of inner freedom: I bought myself a scooter. Now I see the world in a whole new light. Riding that 50cc dark-red baby through the lonesome nights of Den Haag is just such a fresh feeling, I cannot describe it. I just love it.
I grab my scooter and just take off, without a map or a place to go, just to discover the city and be be so close to the night sourrounding me. It is such a beautiful change of pace to cruise around listening to music, stopping here and there to take quick snapshots with my camera. I see the world in a whole new light and a whole new intensity, breathing in every inch of air that sourrounds me, taking in intense impressions of flowers, trees, birds, everything.

Catching the firt morning sunrays in den Haag

Exploring IbizaMathias and I borrowed a scooter last year when we were in Ibiza cruizing over the island in the warm Spring sun. It was awesome, and the time together was well spent bringing us closer together, as father and son but also as friends. We went all over Ibiza and all over Formentera with the scooter, and left the car parked almost the whole time. Next time I am on an island vacation I will not rent a car anymore: Discovering places is best done on a scooter!
Go out and get one yourself, it's really something ...
