As an old-school philosopher, commenting on seemingly short-lived issues of current affairs is not my style, but R.Kelly's newly-released urban soul-opera "In the Closet" is a timeless diamond in disguise, a masterpeace of Shakespearean proportions. In this case I see it as my duty to open people's eyes to this bling-bling thang: A stroke of genius!

Shakespeare, the brilliant shaper of language and dramatic character, has not only touched people of his times, but he has created masterpieces on the eternal psychology of human kind. His dramatic portrayal of the essence mankind is just as valid today as they were in Elisabethian times. At the same time his men and women are not superhuman but superbly human. The characters are so real they could be your brother or that g-funked nigga from down the street.

R. Kelly has accomplished the same with his magnificent 5-part soap entitled "In the Closet", in which he tells the intricacies of human drama of characters entwined in love's drama. Just like Shakespeare did in Hamlet, R. Kelly presents a view of the world in which man's intellect is powerless to understand and predict the whims of fate. Capturing the contradictions of common life, of real people with a rich tapestry of seemingliy contradicting emotional directions being torn between good and evil. Kelly draws in the average person to show that human nature is unfathomable and that the human spirit can be neither explained nor contained by the rationality of our age. For that R.Kelly uses the simple, unrehearsed language of the urban ghetto: He is just like any other man, and through that he is like all other men.

Just as Shakespeare managed to portray life that is full of contradictions and feelings that transcend time, R.
